Laser energy is selected to target the colored ink of the tattoo, shattering it into fine particles beneath the skin. This allows your macrophages (white blood cells) to take up the bits of tattoo ink and remove them through your lymphatic drainage.

The number of sessions needed depends on many factors; length of time since tattoo placed, type of ink used, colors used, density of ink, and goals of treatment to name a few. Tattoo removal requires multiple sessions.

Typically visible lightening of the tattoo can be seen after the first 1-2 sessions. Additional sessions are spaced 6-8 weeks apart to allow resorption of the tattoo ink.

For the first 48-72 hours after tattoo removal your tattoo should remain covered with an occlusive or antibiotic ointment. After this time you can leave it open to air. As with all energy based treatments it is important to protect the treated ares from the sun.
